Entertainer Risk Assessment & Method Statement​

Due to the nature of performances, we do not provide a Method Statement as our shows are adapted to each and every audience and their particular needs. Also a Method Statement is not a legal requirement.

Magic

Hazard - Trapped !ngers, bumps, knocks and scrapes when setting up.
People At Risk - Children.
Action Taken - Keep children away when setting up. Do not allow children “back stage” or to assist with props.

 

Hazard - Electric shock.
People At Risk - Performer and assistants.
Action Taken - Carry out visual check on electrical equipment before use. Do not perform with bare wires, faulty plugs etc. Do not permit liquid near the electrical equipment.

 

Hazard - Injury caused by falling objects.
People At Risk - Staffand public.
Action Taken - Ensure backdrops, tables and props are secure. Do not allow staff and public into the performance area unless invited by the magician.

 

Hazard - Choking.
People At Risk - Younger children.
Action Taken - Do not give small prizes, balloons, or objects to children under the age of three.

 

Hazard - Tripping and falling.
People At Risk - Public and entertainers.
Action Taken - Keep area tidy. Store boxes and bags neatly without risk of them falling or being walked into. Keep walkways clear. Do not lay cable in walkways unless covered or taped down. Event organiser must ensure the performers have an enclosed, dedicated space to work in.

Dancing

 

Hazard - Electric Shock.
People At Risk - Performer and Assistants.
Action Taken - Carry out visual check on electrical equipment before use. Do not perform with bare wires, faulty plugs etc. Do not permit liquid near the electrical equipment.

 

Hazard - Tripping and falling.
People At Risk - Public and entertainers.
Action Taken - Keep area tidy. Do not lay cable in walkways unless covered or taped down. Make sure everybody present has a clear exit out of the space.

Event organiser must ensure the performers have an enclosed, dedicated space to perform. Event organiser must ensure there is adequate space for both entertainers and the public for this activity.

 

Hazard - Tangled in wire.
People At Risk - Mostly younger children.
Action Taken - Do not let children hold the microphone. Do not let children play with the wire. Make sure surplus wire is covered or taped down.

Games

 

Hazard - Bumps and knocks from overcrowding (eg bumping into each other, tripping over each other).
People At Risk - Public.
Action Taken - Make sure each person has su#cient personal space and a clear path out of the activity space should they need to exit.

 

Hazard - Aggravation of or injury as a result of preexisting medical conditions.
People At Risk - Children.
Action Taken - Parents and guardians must supervise games and not permit their child to participate with any activity they are physically or emotionally at risk by playing.

 

Hazard - Tripping, slipping and falling.
People At Risk - Mostly younger children.
Action Taken - Do not let children hold the microphone. Do not let children play with the wire. Make sure surplus wire is covered or taped down.

 

Hazard - Weather conditions.
People At Risk - Children and entertainers.
Action Taken - If games are being played outside, make sure the children are adequately dressed (e.g. a coat in cold weather).

Balloon Modelling

 

Hazard - Choking on latex from burst balloons.
People At Risk - Younger Children.
Action Taken - Do not give balloons directly to children under three (give to parent or guardian). Tell children not to put balloons in their mouths. Do not inflate by mouth as children may copy. Pick up and safely dispose of burst balloons.

Parents are responsible for supervising their children when playing with balloons.

 

Hazard - Damaged ear drums.
People At Risk - People very close when a balloon pops.
Action Taken - Keep a clear space between the balloon modeller and spectators. Do not inflate balloons close to people’s ears .

 

Hazard - Internal ruptures caused by inflating balloons by mouth. People At Risk - Balloon Modeller.
Action Taken - Always use a balloon pump to inflate balloons.

 

Hazard - Child being poked in the face with a balloon pump.
People At Risk - Smaller children.
Action Taken - Keep a clear space between the balloon modeller and children. Do not inflate balloons close to the faces of children.
